The Story Behind the Shots

I’m James McCutcheon,

I was lucky enough to be at the Beatles concert with my wife in Melbourne on June 15, 1964. Before the show started, my wife and I turned to the ladies behind us and asked, “Will you scream when they come out?” They smiled and said, “We don’t know yet.” Well, they screamed—and so did everyone else!

We couldn’t hear a single note over the roar of the crowd. Our ears rang for three days. I had my trusty Leica 111F and Hector telephoto lens that I received for my 21st birthday with me and managed to snap 14 shots in the chaos. Still one of the loudest, wildest, and most unforgettable nights of our lifes.
